hampton hill association music circle

The HHA Music Circle has been meeting for some 30 years; very many of the founder members are still active and enthusiastic participants. The Group is open to all members of the HHA; you are invited to join our monthly meetings held on a Thursday between 7.30 to 10.00, or later and and always include a small buffet or range of snacks. Clearly, as we meet in members' homes, there is a very strict limit to the number of places available; we can usually cope with about 20 or so people at a time on a meeting evening.

We plan ahead our calendar for a year starting in September and then truly look forward to the next meeting when the host or hostess offer us their favourite music or latest discoveries. The choice of music is truly vast, ranging from Miles Davis to Mozart, Flamenco to Fugue, Andean music to Albeniz, ballet to Bossanova, Folk and Ethnic as well as Choral music and classical or cinema organ to oratorio all occasionally spiced with visual aids. Any member may host an evening, if they wish, during the year, assuming that they have the space and seating capacity.

One or two of our members like to encourage a “bring-and-play”, a kind of 'Family Favourites' (for readers who can remember this splendid programme).

Each meeting is punctuated by a mid-evening break for refreshments offered by the host(ess); we each contribute 50 pence to a kitty. The group is actually quite adventurous as members occasionally organise their own extra-curricular activities and, indeed, in September, 10 of us went to the Peacock theatre in London to see this year's Tango show. I am not aware whether members have since experimented with either the dance genre or the music! We may yet be treated to a performance at a future meeting.

For members who are unable to attend certain meetings, we provide a brief newsletter every three months, in which we summarise the previous three meetings' recordings or performances (one of our members occasionally offers his own piano recital) and enjoy short articles on members' musical experiences in this country or overseas.

We look forward to meeting a few new members who are willing to attend most of the evenings throughout the year and hopefully share their musical tastes with us. It is not necessary that you host an evening; you can just come and listen instead!
